Hannah Wilson, Staff Writer – Lecanto High School [LHS] International Baccalaureate [IB] and Lecanto School of Art [LSA] seniors displayed their artwork at the College of Central Florida’s Citrus branch for LHS’s Senior Art Show held Thursday, March 22 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Most of the students that participated have been in either the LSA or IB program for two or more years.

The event showed off the seniors’ hard work and effort put forth towards both the IB and LSA programs as a showcase for the community.

“It was really exciting to finally be able to showcase my students’ artwork. They put a lot into their pieces, and this [event] was such a great opportunity to display that,” said LSA art teacher, Polly Hilgert.

All the seniors spent a lot of time creating their artwork and preparing for the art show. Many of them used their piece as a way to express themselves.

“My art says a lot about how I view things, and I feel as though my personality really shone through in my pieces,” said senior Ashley Schuler, IB student.

Senior Gabby Hayes enjoyed the event because it represented a culmination of her efforts throughout her high school career and the LSA program, and likes making art because of the individualistic sense of achievement it gives her when finished.

“I’ve been in LSA for four years and this art show was kind of the finale. I love creating pieces of art because it’s something that you do independently, and when you’re finally done, you feel so accomplished,” said Hayes.

The show was a successful and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

“It made me really proud to see everyone coming out to see my art and give me recognition,” said LSA student, Isis Marley.
