Tori Cheney, Staff Writer – Snap Inc., the company that runs the popular social media app Snapchat, recently released a new update that made significant changes to the layout of the app. This update caused somewhat of an uproar, as users are having a difficult time navigating and utilizing it with the same ease they did before. Lecanto High School [LHS] students are very opinionated on the subject.
Freshman Kerina Wood thought the update was convoluted and not user-friendly.
“I feel like the new update is really confusing. When I first updated it, I couldn’t even find where my friend’s stories were,” said Wood.
Due to the largely negative response of the public, some students feel the update should be reversed.
“I feel like since almost everyone hates the new update. Snapchat should change the app back to what it was like before,” said Chazlynn Nowling, sophomore.
On the other hand, some students are not all that upset by the changes.
“I don’t mind the Snapchat update. I like the new filters and Bitmojis they added; I use those a lot while texting. I did think it was better before, but I don’t see why everyone is having so many problems with it,” said Jonah Mele, sophomore.
The company does not seem to be changing Snapchat anytime soon, and hopes people will come to like the update in time.
A company spokesman said to online newspaper, The Sun, “Updates as big as this one can take a little getting used to, but we hope the community will enjoy it once they settle in.”
Regardless of how people feel about the update, students still seem to be willing to use Snapchat anyways.
“There are a lot of people that love Snapchat, so now we all just have to learn to accept the new update and hope for better updates in the future,” said Tyler Olson, freshman.
