With Citrus County’s limited activities, roller skating has been a pastime in the county for 30 years.

The Roller Barn has been a hot spot for all ages since it has opened in 1984. The Roller Barn is located in Inverness, Florida. It is a roller/inline skating rink open year-round for all ages. Skating provides great exercise and an opportunity to just have fun and spend time with friends.

Although not everyone was born with skates on their feet, there are lessons available for those who are not experienced. These lessons are available for children and adults. The positive atmosphere is just right for those willing to learn, and the instructors are top-notch for the town. They provide opportunities to focus on the basic techniques and keep you on your feet.

“I would definitely go skating if I knew how,” said freshman Sean O’Brien.

Many students at Lecanto and Citrus High School students used to spend many hours at the Roller Barn, although many high school students do not go there anymore because it is not “cool.” The R0ller Barn now is a place for many birthdays and young teens to hang out.

“I have better things to do now, but I enjoyed the Roller Barn as a kid,” said junior Bradley Hendrickson.

Some of the current employees were practically full-time when they went there as a kid. They enjoy their jobs and spend many hours keeping this “historical monument” open for business.

“I love my job and wouldn’t trade it for anything; the valuable experiences I have made, and all of the people I have met along the way,” said senior Blake O’neal.

“I have just started working here, and I have learned so many life skills. The best part is I still get to enjoy skating,” said junior Mason Tiley.

Although the local high school students are usually not found at the skating rink anymore, many new generations still pour through the doors. Open every day in the summer and on the weekends during the school season, the Roller Barn will be around for many generations to come.
