The Lecanto High School [LHS] boys’ junior varsity [JV] and varsity basketball teams played against the Seven Rivers High School [SRHS] JV and varsity teams Thurs., Nov. 21, 2013.

The JV match started off with a quick lead by LHS, who scored the first three points. The first quarter ended with LHS in the lead, 7-2. SRHS did not fare much better in the second quarter, with the score at 16-5 by halftime. They regained some ground in the second and third quarters, but could not make up the wide gap in the score to prevent their loss. The final score was 39-20, LHS.

JV basketball player and freshman George Albert was happy with the JV team’s performance.

“We did well, and we were scoring all of our shots,” Albert said. “We started off slow, but we finished really well.”

Albert also said that the key player on the team was freshman Kenon Wright.

“He scored a lot of our points,” Albert said.

He also talked about their opponent, SRHS.

“They are a small school, but they still played all right,” Albert said.

The LHS varsity team had a similar performance, with a strong start in the first quarter. They finished 19-6 against SRHS, and SRHS only scored in the last two plays of the quarter. LHS retained their lead in the second quarter, although SRHS scored 14 points. The game reached halftime with LHS in the lead, 34-21. The varsity team scored more in the third quarter. The fourth quarter ended similarly to the JV game, and LHS finished the game 60-38.
