April 22, the Lecanto High School [LHS] baseball team went against West Port High School and finished with a loss.
During the first inning, both teams put forth a great effort. During later innings, West Port’s lead continued to expand the score gap past the point of no return for the Panthers.
Lecanto scored 4 points against West Port, who scored 10. This was the baseball team’s district game where Lecanto was seated fourth in the district and West Port fifth.
The players were disappointed in their performance.
“We should have played better in the field, had less mistakes in the field, had better batting performances, and overall brought our A game,” said sophomore Caleb Southey.
For some players, this game is the last time they would step foot on the field as a Panther.
“It’s sad that it was my last night, and I’m upset about losing, but at least I have summer baseball to look forward to,” said senior Scott Stearns.
