Students from the Lecanto High School JROTC program represented the Panthers at the opening of the new Walmart in Lecanto, Wednesday, January 22.

The beginning of the ceremony started with the students standing in formation behind 1st Sgt. Dean Kelly, where they received a check that the superstore donated to the LSH program.

To end the ceremony, the students held a flag raising ceremony to commemorate the grand opening.

The performance was a showcase for the group to show how they feel about the community they live in.

“The performance went very well in my opinion. The students represented the school and the community with dignity, respect and honor,” Kelly said.

The performance allowed the program to give back to their community, and also helped show the community how their support of the program has helped keep it running strong.

“The people in the community were able to see the impact that their support of our schools has on our students,” Kelly said.

The students made Kelly proud with their performance.

“I think that the trip was a great success. Our students were able to get out into the community to demonstrate our care and interest in the community that we live in,” said Kelly.

Kelly gives credit to the community for helping make the program what it has become.

“The JROTC program wishes to thank all of the students, families, school faculty, and administration that make this leadership program the success that it is,” Kelly said.
